Pope County Quorum Court: when it meets and how to show up

The Pope County Quorum Court is the county's legislative body, with 13 justices of the peace elected from 13 districts. It usually meets on the first Thursday of the month at 5:30 p.m. at the courthouse, 100 W. Main St. in Russellville, and streams meetings on YouTube.

Every Arkansas county has a quorum court. It is not a trial court. It passes county ordinances and decides how county money is spent. Its members are called justices of the peace, or JPs. Ark. Const. amend. 55

Who decides

The 13 JPs vote on ordinances, resolutions and appropriations. The county judge is the county's chief executive. The judge runs county roads, approves spending of appropriated funds, carries out the court's ordinances, and presides at quorum court meetings without a vote but with the power of veto. The County Clerk is the secretary of the quorum court. The clerk's office keeps the court's minutes, ordinances and resolutions, and takes requests to put items on the agenda. County Clerk
